Alessandra Kylin, fotografa svedese, ha partecipato all’ Housewarming del Garden e al compleanno di Together esponendo le sue opere fotografiche. Questa piccola intervista tenta di racchiudere il suo pensiero artistico e quelle che sono state le sue impressioni venendo a contatto con la “casa di tutti”.

COME TI DESCRIVERESTI IN QUANTO ARTISTA? LA TUA ARTE, I TUOI DESIDERI, LE TUE PASSIONI E ISPIRAZIONI…
La mia passione per la fotografia è nata come un’esperienza individuale. Penso che a tutti noi piace “collezionare” qualcosa quando viaggiamo e sperimentare cose, o almeno io lo faccio. Dal momento che non mi piace conservare troppo materiale, la fotografia rappresentava la soluzione perfetta. Quando vedo qualcosa di bello voglio congelare quel momento e immortalarlo in una fotografia.
Le mie foto sono molto naturali, cerco di catturare la realtà o di giocare con essa utilizzando il mio modo di vedere le cose, piuttosto che creare scene. Tuttavia a volte devo ricreare una scena che ho appena visto o riflettere la realtà in un modo diverso . Così le mie ispirazioni provengono da ciò che cattura la mia attenzione in quel dato momento , quel momento naturale di bellezza .
Di conseguenza la mia passione fotografica coincide con il conoscere nuove persone e raccontare le loro storie. Siamo molto di più di quello che il nostro corpo e i vestiti che portiamo addosso raccontano. Se riesco a catturare questo in una foto, mi sento in pace con il mio lavoro. Ho letto di recente una frase che diceva “fotografando a colori immortali i loro vestiti, al contrario facendo foto in bianco e nero catturi la loro anima”. Questa frase rispecchia perfettamente ciò che cerco di realizzare con la fotocamera.
L’ESPERIENZA CON TOGETHER. COME TI SEI TROVATO, COSA HAI IMPARATO O INSEGNATO…
Per me Together è stata la “spinta” finale che mi serviva per mostrare il mio lavoro. Per me era un pensiero terrorizzante quello di mostrare a degli sconosciuti il mio lavoro. Penso ci siano molti artisti, adulti o giovani, che tengono il loro lavoro solo per se stessi, per tutta la loro vita. Questo è vergognoso, a mio avviso, sia per l’individuo che per l’intera società. Together mi ha insegnato ad osare. Together non solo aiuta i giovani a mostrare le loro opere, ma dà loro la possibilità di migliorarsi. Trascorrendo del tempo in un cross-cultural place la mente viene stimolata e si da spazio a nuove idee.
COME PENSI DI LASCIARE TRACCIA IN QUESTO MONDO ATTRAVERSO LA TUA ARTE? COSA PENSI DI REGALARE A CHI OSSERVA LE TUE OPERE?
Secondo me, l’arte ha lo scopo di toccare le persone e aprire la loro mente. Sfortunatamente il nostro mondo procede seguendo logiche piatte e mainstream, così anche l’arte. Per esempio il rock, il blues, il jazz e altri generi musicali sono stati copiati dalla musica mainstream. Come molti altri credo che la musica e l’arte possono avere un effetto positivo nella nostra vita di tutti i giorni e anche in altri aspetti più importanti.
Le scuole ci insegnano ciò che vogliono che noi impariamo e non danno abbastanza spazio al’individualità e alla creatività. Vorrei che le persone pensassero di meno e “sentissero” di più. Il mio “goal” è riuscire a toccare le persone con le mie foto, creare una sorta di emozione elaborando o immortalando il momento meraviglioso di cui ho appena avuto esperienza. Potrebbe essere qualsiasi tipo di sensazione, da una familiare sentimento d’amore al desiderio di sognare lontano, magari nello stesso posto in cui la foto è stata scattata.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST? yOUR ART, YOUR DESIRES, YOUR PASSIONS AND INSPIRATIONS…
My passion for photography started as an egoistic thing. I think we all like to collect something when we travel and experience things, or at least I do. Since I don’t like treasuring a lot of stuff, photography was the perfect solution. When I see something beautiful I want to freeze that moment and eternalize it in a picture.
My pictures are very natural, I try to catch reality or play with reality the way I see it rather than creating scenes. However sometimes I do have to recreate a scene I just saw or reflect reality in a different way. Thus my inspirations come from what catches my attention in the moment, that natural moment of beauty.
Accordingly my passion about photography is to meet people and tell stories. We are all so much more than our body and the clothes we put on. If I mange to capture that in the picture I feel at peace with my work. I recently read a quote saying “photographing in colour capture their clothes, whereas taking pictures in black and white captures the soul.” It reflects pretty much what I am trying to achieve when I work with the camera.
EXPERIENCE WITH…TOGETHER AS YOU TRIED, WHAT DID YOU LEARN OR TEACH…
For me Together was the final push I needed in order to show my work. For me it was always a scary thought to show my pictures to strangers. I think there are so many young and old creative people who keep their work for themselves all life. Which I think is a shame both for the individual and the society. Together taught me to dare. Not only do I think Together help young people to show their work but also to improve it. Spending time in a cross-cultural place stimulates the mind and gives space for new ideas.
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO LEAVE YOU IN THIS WORLD THROUGH YOUR ART? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF GIVING TO THOSE WHO KEEP YOUR WORK?
According to me art has the purpose to touch people and open our minds. Unfortunately our world is going in a very plain and mainstream way, also the art. For example rock, blues, jazz and other moving music has been replaced by a lot of mainstream sounds. Like many others I believe that music and art can have a positive affect not only in our daily lives but also on bigger spectra.
School teaches us what ”they” want us to learn and does not give enough space for individuality or creativity. I wish for people to think less and feel more. My goal is to touch people with my photos, to create some kind of emotion by making or capturing that moment of beauty I just experienced. It could be anything from a familiar feeling of love to a desire to dream yourself away into the place where the picture was taken.
